How to preserve evidence

Good evidence helps reviewers corroborate a report — but never put yourself at risk to collect it.

This is general information, not legal advice. Laws and procedures change. For advice about your situation, talk to a lawyer or the Public Attorney's Office.

Useful evidence

  • Receipts, or the absence of an official receipt for money paid.
  • Photos of posted fee schedules or notices.
  • Screenshots of text messages, chats or e-wallet transfers.
  • Documents showing delays, repeated returns of your application, or unusual requirements.

Keep originals

Upload copies, keep originals. Don't edit files you might later need as evidence — make an edited copy to share and keep the untouched original safe.

About recordings

The Anti-Wiretapping Act (RA 4200) restricts recording private communications without consent. Rules on recording in public offices are complex. Get legal advice before secretly recording anyone.

Remove what identifies you

Crop out your name, face, ID numbers and application numbers. We remove location data from JPG, PNG and WEBP photos, but not from videos, audio, HEIC photos or PDFs.
