Content moderation policy
Human decisions only
Automated tools may help sort and flag reports, but a person makes every decision to publish, change a status, reject or refer. Automated tools never decide that someone is guilty.
Redaction standard
- Remove names of individuals, including officials, from unverified allegations.
- Remove ID numbers, plate numbers, phone numbers, emails and exact addresses.
- Generalise details that could identify the reporter (exact dates, unusual personal circumstances).
- Show location at municipality level only where at least three reports exist; otherwise province.
- Use neutral language: “the reporter says”, “was allegedly asked”.
Status changes
Moderators can move reports between Received, Under review, Evidence requested, Disputed and Closed. Only senior administrators can mark a report Corroborated, record a referral, or reject it. Every change is logged with who made it and why.
Flags and disputes
Anyone can flag a published story. Flags that a story identifies a person are reviewed first, and the story may be unpublished while we check. A person described in a story can request a correction or dispute through the contact page; disputed stories are labelled.
